Community Investment Program

Categories: Other

Many of our members experienced first-hand how the COVID pandemic can change everything in a single moment.

One member lost her job when COVID hit and was forced to move. She wasn’t sure how she was going to get through it. When she called our front desk team to cancel her membership, she was so upset.  When we told her about our Community Investment program and the opportunity to pay a reduced monthly membership fee, she couldn’t believe it.  Her mood completely changed and she was filled with a sense of hope. Now she is on the treadmill and focusing on her personal health again.

YWCA Tulsa wants all people, regardless of financial capacity, to be able to participate in YWCA health & wellness programming and achieve their personal fitness goals.

Our Community Investment program allows members experiencing financial hardship to apply for a sliding scale member discount based on family size and financial need. In 2021, 310 members were able to pay deeply discounted membership fees with the support of the Community Investment program.

Will you partner with us to support this program?

The Grace and Franklin Bernsen Foundation will match each gift received from our members 1:1, effectively doubling your impact. Our goal is to raise $25,000 from our community to support this program.

Your partnership makes a huge difference in our ability to provide a steady resource for families and seniors that experience unexpected financial challenges, or are on a fixed monthly income.

Many of our Community Investment Program participants are receiving disability, unemployment or social security income. Their fixed monthly income means they have to make difficult choices between basic necessities and investing in their health. Our Community Investment Program eases this burden.

Each member has a story that shows exactly why we created the community investment program.

One member is a single mom raising 2 teens on her own. She had only been with us for a few months, but we noticed that her monthly payments were falling behind.

When we talked with her, we found out that had lost her job, and was on unemployment. We knew that we could improve her situation and support her health and fitness goals and asked if she would like to apply for the Community Investment Program. With the support of the Community Investment program, she is a steadfast member to this day.

Will you support community members with a gift today?

A gift of $65 will help a single-parent family gain access to our fitness centers and drop-in childcare for a month. A $100 gift covers the cost of two senior monthly memberships and gives them access to YWCA arthritis aquatics programming.

Consider a gift of $300 to provide monthly memberships to four families in our community. With the Bernsen Foundation match, this effectively means your gift’s impact will double. Will you partner with us today?

Will you join us in supporting our members?

Will you make a gift of $65? The pandemic has been a challenging time for many and our community needs your support. You can help us provide some needed relief for every
community member that wants to pursue their health and wellness goals in 2022.

Our Community Investment program is supported by, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma, Tulsa Area United Way, Ascension St. John, The Grace and Franklin Bernsen Foundation, and many of our individual members who understand the benefits of our Health Equity and Wellness programming.

Can you make a matching gift today? For your convenience we have enclosed a gift envelope.
