Translation and Interpretation Services

YWCA Tulsa provides professional interpretation and translation services to ensure all Tulsans have access to services across the city. Revenue from our translation and interpretation services is reinvested back into YWCA Tulsa programming, allowing us to serve more people.

Current languages include Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, Dari, Farsi, French, Hmong, Mandarin, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Zomi. 

Services include but are not limited to:

  • Community – interpretation for client appointments and group events, translation of flyers, marketing and community education materials
  • Medical – interpretation for appointments and translation of related medical resources and documents
  • School – interpretation for individual appointments and school events and translation of flyers and transcripts
  • Legal – interpretation for client appointments and translation of legal documents

Interpretation Training of Oklahoma (ITOK)

Become a Trained, Professional Interpreter with our free 40-Hour Program.

YWCA Tulsa, in partnership with Tulsa Health Department, is offering an interpretation training program, designed for bilingual individuals with or without formal interpretation experience. Participants will learn professional interpretation skills and can bring their new skills and knowledge to their current positions. Participants are also eligible to apply to become a contract interpreter with YWCA.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Completed high school equivalent degree
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Individuals proficient in English AND a second language.
  • Access to a computer, internet, and microphone/video capabilities.

Priority will be given to partners of the Tulsa Health Department.

We offer FREE Covid-19 related Interpretation and Translation Services!

YWCA Tulsa is excited to be able to offer free interpretation and translation services to organizations who help Tulsans through COVID-19, COVID-19 co-morbidities, and through the longterm impacts of COVID-19.

The services are funded by a grant from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and are in partnership with the Tulsa Health Department.

The funding allows YWCA Tulsa to provide up to 20 hours of interpretation services or 10 pages of translation services per week to organizations to help translate flyers, forms, educational material and advertisements, and interpret individual appointments, events, videos and advertisements.

Interested in Becoming a YWCA Tulsa Interpreter?

YWCA Tulsa is in need of freelance interpreters! This position is flexible based on your schedule, and we provide the necessary training at no cost to you.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Completed high school equivalent degree
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Proficient in English AND Burmese, Zomi, Dari, Hmong, Pashto, Russian, French, Arabic or Spanish.

YWCA Tulsa is a licensed provider of The Community Interpreter®International, the leading national community and medical interpreter training program. The training focuses on medical interpreting and includes ethics and conduct, basic skills, positioning and terminology, modes of interpreting, strategies for intervention, cultural mediation, and other vital skills and topics. Training is language neutral.
