Los Pecesitos (“the little fish”) is a Spanish speaking swim lesson program for children between ages 4-12.
The program was created to address the high drowning and water related injuries among Latino children in the Tulsa community.
All instructors are bilingual and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certified. In addition, children receive healthy snacks after each lesson, and family members are encouraged to participate in family swim days.
In 2013, the third year of the program, 184 children participated in Los Pecesitos. The program occurs in the months of June and July each year. The lessons are tailored to three skill levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced. The program has been filled to capacity each summer with a waiting list of over 50 children.
