Director of Health Equity and Wellness

DeAndre Opoku

DeAndre Opoku joined the YWCA in December 2020 as the Director of Health Equity and Wellness. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Langston University and master’s degree in Public Health from Florida International University. DeAndre was then commissioned into the United States Air Force as a Public Health Officer. For six years, she managed Occupational and Community Health programs, accomplished multiple Humanitarian Deployments in Central America, and completed International Flight Medicine and Public Health missions. Upon completing her military commitment, she worked for the Texas Department of Health as a HIV/STD Manager and Maryland Department of Health as the Biomedical Intervention Coordinator. DeAndre is a NCHEC-certified health education specialist with proven ability to design effective intervention programs domestic and internationally. DeAndre also has expertise in management, risk assessment, community outreach, health promotion, and clinical research.

In her new role at the YWCA, DeAndre is tasked to oversee the health and wellness programming and to expand our focus to include health equity. Our goal is to evaluate how we can best utilize our strengths and resources in this field to better address health disparities in the Tulsa community. DeAndre is ecstatic to spearhead this effort; as an Oklahoma native, she understands the marginalization within our community and how it impacts health. Enhancing health equity brings us one step closer to eliminating racism and empowering women.
