Erika Vasas
I am originally from Canada where I obtained a diploma in Graphic Design from Niagara College and then a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Alberta College of Art and Design. After that, I travelled around Australia before moving to Seoul, South Korea to teach English as a Second Language for 3 years. This is also where I met my future husband!
After leaving Korea, I received my Masters of Science in Education from Medaille College in Buffalo and moved to Tuxtla Gutierrez MX to teach Kindergarten. Upon completion of my contract, I was accepted in the Visiting International Faculty Program, which places teachers from all over the world in Title One schools in the Southeastern United States. I taught 2nd grade at Hapeville Elementary for 2 years before moving to Oklahoma. After living and teaching in Lawton OK, we moved to Tulsa, and I taught in the Broken Arrow school district before getting my Elementary and Secondary Principal Certification and becoming first an assistant principal and then a building principal both in the Broken Arrow District and in the Amphitheater Unified School District in Tuscon AZ.
I decided I needed a change and came to work at the YWCA Tulsa in June 2022. First, I worked as the Adult Education Manager for the Education Team and then moved into the Director of Grant Compliance position on April 15, 2023, then the Senior Director of Strategic Implementation and Grant Compliance. Now I am currently the Associate Executive Director.
On a personal note, I have been married to my husband, Reggie, for 15+ years and we have 2 amazing cats named Buttercup and Pumpkin! I love to work out, read, travel, hike, bike, try new recipes, crochet, learn new things and spend time with my friends!
