YWCA Tulsa citizenship classes are here to help you take the next step toward U.S. citizenship with confidence. In this supportive nine-week course, you’ll learn about American history, how the government works and what it means to become a citizen.

You’ll get real, hands-on practice for the citizenship test, including sample questions and clear guidance so you know exactly what to expect in your interview.

Inside the Citizenship Exam

The U.S. Citizenship test has two main parts: English and Civics.

English: You will show basic skills in speaking, reading and writing. During your interview, an officer will talk with you in English and ask questions about your application. You’ll also read and write a few short sentences to showcase everyday English skills.
Civics: You will answer questions about U.S. history and government on topics like the Constitution, the rights and responsibilities of citizens and how the U.S. government works.

The interview is led by an officer from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, who will guide you through each step. This is your moment to move forward with confidence and take the final step toward becoming a U.S. citizen.

Elizabeth Loera-Scribner

ADULT EDUCATION MANAGER

As an immigrant, Liz understands the challenges people face when moving to a new country. She knows how important it is to have access to education, resources and supportive connections. By creating welcoming places to learn, she helps Tulsa’s international residents feel connected to the community.
Rachel Dunn

INSTRUCTIONAL COACH & SUPERVISOR

Rachel has spent her career helping adults learn English and connect with people from different cultures. She works closely with teachers and program staff to make sure everyone communicates clearly and that learners feel supported and welcome.
Lydia Kirha

YOUTH EDUCATION SUPERVISOR

Lydia leads the Refugee Youth Mentoring Program for teens and young adults ages 15–24, as well as the Family Literacy Program for kids ages 0–5. By helping families learn about new schools, cultures and resources, she helps them feel at home in their community.
Bakhtullah Ahmadzai

PROGRAM NAVIGATOR

Bakhtullah serves as a liaison among students, instructors and staff by promoting clear communication and a supportive learning environment. From student records to transportation coordination, he works with closely with students to ensure their success.
Maria Jannette Nunez

STUDENT SERVICES COORDINATOR

As a former ESL student, Maria brings a special understanding to her role because she has experienced the challenge of learning English. She finds her joy watching students grow in their skills and confidence and celebrating their success along the way.
